Sagebrush Scenes--Travels in Eastern California and Western Nevada

Part 2

Photography by Martin Cole and Roger Vargo

A heard of wild horses runs through the sagebrush at McBride flat, Nevada.

A visit to the Laws museum provided us with an afternoon of research on Chalfant's Inyo Independent newspaper, 1871-72.

What creature made this footprint?

(No, Steve Spangler wasn't within 300 miles that we know of)

A deer watches our travels.

Marty photographs a mine adit in the Queen's Canyon area of Nevada.

Stopes (mined out areas) hundreds of feet deep and the all metal Mitzpah Mine headframe mark the territory of the Tonopah Historic Mining Park in Tonopah, Nevada.

The hoist and compressor inside the Mitzpah Mine hoist house (left) are in operable condition, along with spare parts such as this brake belt (top).

The ghost town of Bodie, California, is always a favorite destination whenever we're in the area.

Chris Spiller, as "Mrs. Hoover" discusses the workings of a stamp battery inside Bodie's Standard Mill.

The lucky stiffs in the Bodie Cemetery have the best view of town.

Another day ends for Bodie and so must our visit to Eastern California and Western Nevada.
